Cosmic Community: Mankind’s Opportunity

In 69 we broke the tethers, bound for the furthest sea,                      our world
we pulled up anchor and headed for The Sea Of Tranquility.
We took our first steps, no easy feat,
as mankind took that giant leap.
Our own little home world, so fragile.
to build the cities of the future we have to travel
Say goodbye to our beautiful blue world, set against the black,
once we leave, it’s a one-way trip, there’s no ticket back.

We’ve sent Rovers to Mars, and probes bearing messages, on exploratory trips
our emissaries; those reconnaissance ships.

our nearest neighbors, they’re cold and inhospitable places,

We must venture further out to find our oasis

Beyond the gas giants; to the stars, the cosmos beckons,

like sailors, we will sail the sea of the heavens.

For new worlds; and new life we’ll search,

out of our solar system, into the galaxies and onward, to the universe.

To boldly go forth into the unknown, on the greatest enterprise.

explorers and settlers will colonize.

the entirety of our species. An undertaking like no other,
what wonders will we discover?
Once only possible in the realm of science fiction,
Sagan, Clarke and Asimov, would champion our mission.
let there be no limitations for our destinations,
become an interstellar civilization, build a new foundation.

Pioneers on the frontier of brave new worlds; things to come,

we couldn’t even begin to fathom.

Will we be welcome denizens of the galactic community,

would we be worthy to be granted cosmic citizenry?
