My Day Has Come

I had no illusions to where this would lead,

the conclusion was all but guaranteed.

I knew from the beginning,

this was one,  I wasn’t winning.

I took a leap, hoping maybe by some chance,

that you’d be my partner in this dance.

But you weren’t mine to keep, only to borrow,

I’ll revel in the memory, then cry everlasting sorrow.

Will the sadness ever be overcome, my heart aches,

swept  away with grief, so lonesome, but I knew the stakes.

The pain and hurt, stab at my soul,

no mercy, but misery for my role.

I’m just paying the price that I owe,  it’s due,

this was wrong,  the day would come, that I always knew.
